One of my favorite lessons from Thich Nhat Hanh involves a conversation with a leaf. I was reminded of it as the last leaves floated past my window from a large oak in my backyard. When asked if she is sad to be soon falling from the tree, the leaf responds by actually she is rejoicing because she is moving on to her next stage of being as nourishment for the tree.
I am a firm proponent of the fact that energy is neither created nor destroyed. Maybe long, long ago creation happened, but that remains a mystery to me. I am joyful, like the leaf, to know that there will be a continuation of me in some form after this body ends its service. That is enough for me to know.
