I am a Buffalo Bills fan. They are an exciting team. And they seem to take teamwork seriously. They are not perfect, as their disastrous game with the Miami Dolphins showed. Ths week was better.
After the game with the Dolphins, the commentary was brutal. Now, this week, many are singing their praises.
Why are we so finicky? I am especially concerned with sports involving kids. Instead of developing helpful lifeskills like cooperation, teamwork and perseverence, the focus is often too much on winning. Winning all the time is impossible, while elevating important life skills is always a possibility. What message are we sending if winning is the primary valued outcome?
I will try to remember my words the next time the Bills lose a game.
