I have this beautiful sunflower plant next to my Buddha statue. I plant one every summer. Each plant flourishes, but I've learned that I need to cut off the dead flowers so the buds get the energy they need to bloom.
What a valuable lesson! How often do we try to hold on to things that no longer serve us, leading to reducing the opportunity for new opportunities to flourish? With my cancer diagnosis, this act of "deadheading" becomes even more important. I only have so much energy and it is essential that I prioritize what is really important.
This is my challenge. Before doing something, ask, "Is this essential? Will doing this nourish me and/or be beneficial to others?" If not, maybe another path should be taken.
